Lately, there has been a large uptick in the number of young women changing or enhancing their physical appearance by cosmetic surgery. This increase in demand has been exponential for lip injections(a minor and temporary procedure). Growth in social media and the need for influencers and others to continually post new content has resulted in a desire for them to look more physically attractive.

The trend for cosmetic procedures began in Hollywood, where celebrities are known for trying to attain perfection in their physical appearance. These days more celebrities are being candid about having cosmetic procedures like botox fillers and lip injections. Because some of these stars are receiving admiration for their enhanced fuller lips, the taboo surrounding these procedures is no longer there, and the culture of cosmetic enhancement has become so mainstream that even girls as young as 17 are undergoing such procedures. These teens having cosmetic surgery at so young an age are part of the social media generation, most of whom are on one or two – if not all social media platforms. They feel the need to look on top of their game and selfie-ready at all times. It may simply be for vanity purposes or business-related, i.e they are promoting themselves, products, or escort services on social media.

The Jury is out on whether men find enhanced lips sexy or not. Some men will say that confidence is key to a woman’s sexiness. Does this mean that a woman who has lip fillers is not confident because she felt the need to have her lips enhanced, or does it mean that now that her lips are enhanced she has more confidence?
